Personal Cares Room
The Personal Cares Room is located on the First Floor near the elevators. This private room includes an adult-sized changing bed and rocking chair for any personal care or medical needs. Ask a staff member for entry; room is sanitized after each use.
Sensory Room
The Sensory Room is located on the First Floor near the women's restroom. This room provides a safe and controlled environment to regulate emotions or behaviors. It offers adjustable lights and sounds, different tactile panels, books, various seating options, a weighted lap mat, and fidget boards.
SENSORY-FRIENDLY EXPERIENCES
- Each exhibit offers an immersive sensory experience.
- The Butterfly Vivarium on the First Floor houses hundreds of live butterflies flying around that may land on you or fly near you.
- The Third Planet, also on the First Floor, is the richest sensory experience with strobe lights, thunder, and dinosaur sounds.

Sensory ITEMS
Available for checkout at ticket windows with a form of identification.
- The Communication Sheets are available in English and Spanish. They assist visitors in identifying the exhibits they want to see as well as their needs and emotions. Download
- Adult and child sensory compression vests offer deep pressure to help with regulation while navigating the Museum.
- Explorer Kits are filled with communication sheets, visual schedules, sensory maps, social stories, fidgets, sunglasses, and earplugs. These sensory tools are designed to assist individuals of all ages and abilities customize their visit to match their sensory and accessibility needs.
- Noise-reducing headphones are available in adult and child sizes.
- The sensory lab coats provide sensory input while exploring the Museum. They assist with regulation and provide a calming experience. There is also a sensory apron available for wheelchair users.
- The Sensory Maps indicate exhibits with quiet or loud spaces, bright or dim areas, wait times, tactile opportunities, and smells. The maps allow visitors to tailor their visit to see exhibits which align with their sensory needs. Download
- Social Stories help visitors look ahead to their arrival at the Museum, sensory accommodations available, sensory experiences of each exhibit, information on each exhibit, what is expected in different exhibits, and leaving the Museum. Download
- The Visual Schedules allow visitors to customize their visit while increasing the predictability of their visit to help establish a routine. Download
