On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Milwaukee Public Museum took a MAMMOTH step forward in its design and construction of a new natural history museum—set to open in 2027!

This exciting milestone would not have been possible without the guidance, generosity, and expertise of so many—from tribal nations and focus group participants to the project’s architecture and exhibit design teams to elected officials and private donors.

The Future Museum site, located at the corner of Sixth and McKinley streets in downtown Milwaukee, will include a five-story building that will house Milwaukee County’s priceless collections items and feature four floors of immersive exhibits. It will also include a planetarium, rooftop terrace, enclosed butterfly garden, and an outdoor ground-level plaza plus attached parking garage. Most importantly, the Future Museum will be a place for people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences to come together to learn about and better appreciate the world around them—instilling a sense of wonder for generations to come.
