Information on some of the Milwaukee Public Museum's great collections and research can be found online.
MPM geology research with an online presence includes the following:
The Virtual Silurian Reef - During the Silurian Period in earth history, 425 million years ago, when much of North America was covered by a shallow, tropical sea, reefs flourished in the area now occupied by Wisconsin and Illinois.
Waubakee Formation - The Waubakee Formation, the youngest Silurian unit in Wisconsin, ranges from 20 to 30 meters thick and consists of dolomite of intertidal to supratidal origin.
